THE Ilonggo Literature Archive (ILA) hopes to gather an extensive collection of materials that will represent the body of literature written by the Ilonggos from the earliest times to the present.

The term Ilonggo in this website is loosely used to refer to the inhabitants of Western Visayas in the Philippine archipelago. Although strictly speaking, Ilonggo refers to the inhabitants of the Province of Iloilo.

The literary pieces are written in Hiligaynon, Akeanon, Kinaray-a, Filipino, Spanish and English. Most of the non-English pieces are provided with an English translation for the benefit of the non-Ilonggo and non-Filipino readers.

ILA also provides a directory of writers in Hilgaynon, writers in Akeanon, writers in Kinaray-a and Western Visayas Writers in English. One will find here a brief biographical sketch of the authors, their pictures, links to their websites, and e-mail addresses. Arrangements for purchase of available books written or edited by the featured writers can be arranged directly with the authors.

The resurgence of literary writing among Ilonggos and West Visayans and the extensive use of internet technology provided the impetus for this project. With this site, we are presenting to the world the beauty of Ilonggo literature - a beauty to be shared with the rest of humanity.
